Imran Khan Reportedly Loses 85% Vision in Jail; Court-Appointed Lawyer Flags Medical Neglect

Imran Khan health update

A new Imran Khan health update has triggered concern after a court-appointed lawyer reported that the former Pakistan Prime Minister has lost nearly 85 per cent vision in his right eye while in custody.

The findings come from a detailed Salman Safdar report, prepared by the Supreme Court-appointed amicus curiae (friend of the court), following a visit to Adiala Jail. The report claims that repeated medical complaints were allegedly ignored for months before Khan suffered severe damage to his eyesight.

According to the document accessed by media outlets, Khan told the court-appointed visitor that he had normal 6×6 vision in both eyes until around October 2025. He then began experiencing blurred and hazy vision, which he said he repeatedly reported to jail authorities.

The report states that no timely action was taken. It further records that Khan later experienced a sudden and complete Imran Khan vision loss in his right eye. An ophthalmologist was eventually called, and he was reportedly diagnosed with a blood clot that caused significant damage, leaving him with only about 15 per cent vision in that eye.

Concerns Over Adiala Jail Conditions

Beyond the vision issue, the report raises broader concerns about Adiala Jail conditions.

It notes that Khan has been held in Imran Khan solitary confinement since his transfer to Adiala Jail in October 2023 — a period of nearly two years and four months.

The lawyer described the former prime minister as visibly distressed during the visit, noting watery eyes and apparent physical discomfort. The report also states that regular blood tests were not conducted despite his age and medical needs, and that he did not receive dental care over the past two years despite repeated requests.

Access to Family and Legal Counsel

The report also highlights restrictions on family visits and legal access.

It states that immediate family members were not allowed to meet him regularly, though recent changes in jail administration have reportedly allowed weekly meetings with his wife for about 30 minutes.

Contact with his sons has been limited to two phone calls during the entire year of 2025, according to the report.

The document further claims that for the past five months, Khan has not been permitted to meet his lead counsel or members of his legal team. The lawyer warned that such restrictions could affect his ability to prepare his defence and participate meaningfully in legal proceedings.

Official Response and Wider Reaction

As of now, there has been no detailed public response from Pakistani authorities addressing the specific medical and confinement claims mentioned in the Salman Safdar report.

Supporters of Khan have described the situation as deliberate mistreatment, while critics of the former prime minister argue that legal processes are ongoing and subject to court oversight.

The report concludes with a recommendation for urgent examination by specialist ophthalmologists and restoration of regular family and legal access.

The latest Imran Khan health update is likely to intensify political debate within Pakistan, particularly over prison oversight, human rights standards and due process in high-profile cases.
